Hello good people
I have decided to begin a blog to communicate with fellow humans who are dotted around the world ? trying who live in countries that are not their native origins, I want to share my struggles with adapting to speaking English all the time, without losing my mother tongue and also fitting into the foreign traditions without comprising my identity. I also want to share my experiences raising my children born in my native country Zimbabwe but growing up in England, how I have struggled with ensuring that the African identity in them is strong without them seeming lost in this our new home. My husband and I moved to the United Kingdom in 2001 with our two children aged 3 and 8 at the time, the plan was to work and get our masters degrees and also raise capital and return home after about 5 years. However as they say, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail, we never had a set plan on how to achieve this goal therefore hence we are still in England in 2020 and have even had another addition to the family who is currently 3 years old and has never been to Zimbabwe. So to all those who immigrate with the intention of returning to motherland, I suggest that you devise a plan and lay out how you are going to achieve these goals as goals need to be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time bound.in order to be fulfilled effectively.)
Furthermore I am also going to share ideas on how to take care of African hair and also how to cook African foods and other foods that I make for my family that are not necessarily African.
Other topics of interest I am going to share on this journey are topics on money management as that is something we have struggled with as my husband and I were never taught how to manage money and we are just about starting to get to grips with managing our finances after almost 26 years of marriage.
