Creating your own staff

As a child ,my mother made most of my some clothes, at the time I did not appreciate the clothes my mother made. Don’t get me wrong I loved the clothes but once in awhile I would’ve appreciated more clothes being bought for me. It took a long time for me to appreciate that my mother did what other parents never did, she was very creative and she made sure that whatever clothes she was making for me was very fashionable. It has taken me a long time to realise that clothes were designer, and were made to measure, and in the first world, such a service would cost am arm and a leg and is not as affordable. This was my mum doing the best with what she had, where she was.

My mother also knitted all our jumpers, gloves and scarfs. We always had unique knitwear as she bought the patterns and made asked us to choose the style of knitwear. I took her a few weeks to complete an item, but as child i loved it when she would call me to measure the length of the sleeves or the back. Looking back now, I the jumpers she made for us were so warm and they fit perfectly. In the winter she also crocheted socks to wear around the house and when going to bed.

Other items around the home that my mother made were table clothes. These were either fully crocheted or they were cross stitched and then she would crochet the edges around the fabric. This made our home really lovely and pretty. She was never idle and was always looking for ways to create pretty items for the home.

We had potted plants and these were in upcycled flower pots. By upcycling, i could also call it re-cycling. She would use an empty 5 litre tin that was once had oil ot peanut butter. Make holes at the bottom for drainage. Fill it with soil and plant indoor and out door flowers. The indoor pots would be wrapped with wrapping paper that was saved from any presents received at Christmas or simply wrapped with newspapers.
